01

Our editorial mission

Legamoney publishes explanatory content about money, business software, borrowing, insurance and everyday legal questions. Our purpose is to help a reader understand how something works before they make a decision about it — not to tell them what to choose.

We publish information, not advice. Nothing on this site is personalised financial, insurance, tax or legal advice, and no article accounts for an individual reader's circumstances.

02

Research standards

Every article begins with a question a reader is actually asking, and a decision about what a complete answer requires. Writers work from primary documentation wherever it exists: statutes and regulator guidance, published policy wordings, vendor pricing and documentation pages, and official statistical releases.

  • Claims that carry consequence are traced to a document a reader can open.
  • Where a figure varies by jurisdiction or provider, we say so rather than averaging it.
  • Where evidence is thin or contested, we describe the uncertainty instead of resolving it.

03

Source selection

We prefer sources in this order: government and regulator publications, primary legal and contractual documents, peer-reviewed and institutional research, industry bodies, and finally company documentation for facts about that company's own products.

Press coverage is used to locate a primary source, not to substitute for it. We do not cite content marketing, undated pages, or aggregators that do not identify their own sources. Sources are listed at the foot of each article with publisher and date.

04

Fact checking

Before publication, an editor checks each factual claim against the cited source, confirms that figures, dates and definitions match, and removes anything that cannot be supported. Claims that could reasonably be read as a recommendation are rewritten as description.

Numbers used to illustrate a calculation are labelled as illustrative. We do not present worked examples as typical outcomes or as forecasts.

05

Expert review

Some articles are reviewed by a named subject-matter reviewer before publication. When that happens, the reviewer's name, role and any verifiable credentials appear on the article, along with the review date.

When an article has not been independently reviewed, the transparency panel on that article says so explicitly. We never imply attorney, accountant, actuarial or medical review that has not taken place.

06

Content updates

Rules, prices and product terms change. Every article carries both a publication date and a last-updated date, and the updated date only moves when the content itself has been re-checked or revised — never to game freshness signals.

Articles covering fast-moving subjects such as rates, pricing tiers or statutory thresholds are reviewed on a recurring schedule. Material that can no longer be supported is corrected, marked as historical, or withdrawn.

07

Corrections

We correct errors of fact promptly. Readers can report an error through our contact page; please include the page address and, where possible, the source that shows the correct information.

  • Substantive corrections are made in the text and noted on the page.
  • Typographical fixes are made silently.
  • Where an error materially changed the meaning of a page, we say what changed and when.

08

Editorial independence

Editorial decisions — what we cover, what we conclude, and the order in which products appear in a comparison — are made by the editorial team alone. Commercial partners, advertisers and vendors have no input into coverage, no advance sight of articles, and no ability to have content amended or removed for commercial reasons.

Inclusion in a comparison is never bought. A vendor's refusal to participate does not affect whether or how we cover them.

09

Affiliate relationships

Where affiliate relationships exist, they are disclosed on the page on which they apply and in our affiliate disclosure. Affiliate arrangements do not influence rankings, recommendations, ordering, or the substance of any assessment.

We do not publish "sponsored rankings", paid placements presented as editorial, or reviews written or approved by the vendor being reviewed.

10

Advertising

Advertising is separated from editorial content, labelled, and positioned so that it does not interrupt the reading experience or resemble an article. Advertisers do not receive editorial data about upcoming coverage and cannot request placement adjacent to specific articles about their competitors.

Ad slots on this site are currently placeholders reserved in the layout; no third-party ad code is loaded.

11

AI-assisted content policy

Generative tools may be used for limited production tasks: drafting outlines, suggesting headings, checking readability, and generating summaries of text the writer has already verified.

  • No article is published as unedited machine output.
  • Facts, figures, quotations and sources are verified by a person against the original document.
  • We do not use generated text to create sources, citations, credentials or quotations.
  • Every article has a named human author or the editorial team as its author of record.

12

Conflict of interest

Contributors disclose financial interests, employment and consulting relationships that overlap with a subject they cover. Where a relevant interest exists, the contributor does not write about that subject, or the interest is disclosed on the page.

Contributors do not accept payment, gifts or hospitality from a company in exchange for coverage.

13

Author standards

Every article names its author. Author pages state the writer's actual role and areas of coverage. Credentials are listed only when they are real, current and verifiable — we leave the field empty rather than inflate it.

Job titles describe the work the person does for Legamoney. We do not describe writers as advisers, analysts, attorneys or licensed professionals unless that is factually the case.

14

Legal and financial content standards

Our subject matter can affect a reader's money, coverage or legal position, so we hold it to additional constraints:

  • No guarantees of outcome, settlement value, approval, savings or eligibility.
  • No pressure language, urgency devices or lead-generation framing.
  • Jurisdictional limits are stated; where rules differ by country or state, we say so.
  • Legal content explains general processes and terminology, never a course of action for a specific matter.
  • Every page carries a disclaimer directing readers to a qualified professional.
Questions about how a specific article was produced? Ask us through the contact page and we will answer with the sources we used.
